Volleyball Edged By No. 18 Chandler-Gilbert

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- The Yavapai College volleyball team headed down to the valley on Friday night and battled the No. 18-ranked Coyotes of Chandler-Gilbert all the way to a fifth set. The Coyotes, however, prevailed and took home the victory. 

With the loss, the Roughriders move to 12-12 overall and 6-5 within the ACCAC with two games left on the regular-season schedule and a playoff spot still up for grabs. 

The Roughriders dropped set one 25-17, before taking a 2-1 lead with a 25-19 victory in set two and 25-12 victory in set three. The Coyotes then took set four 25-21 and set five 15-10 to secure the victory. 

On the stat sheet, freshmen outside hitters Kierslynn Wright and Sophia Parlanti led the Roughriders in kills with 17 each while sophomore setter Natalie Horsley and freshman setter Brooke Parker led in assists with 23 and 21, respectively. Sophomore libero Brooklyn Holland took home the team-lead in digs with 20.

The Roughriders are back on the court on Wednesday in Thatcher, Arizona, against the Eastern Arizona Gila Monsters at 7 p.m. in a match that has major playoff implications.
