Volleyball Dominates Mesa, Takes Home Third-Straight Sweep

PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- The Yavapai College volleyball team logged its third-consecutive victory (all via sweep) Wednesday night inside of Walraven Gymnasium, moving its overall record to 11-10 and ACCAC record to 5-3.

"Our team has been working hard to become a better passing team and it really showed tonight," Head Coach Zachary Shaver said after the win. "Our middle blockers were much more effective attacking because of our improved passing."

Down 11-9 in the first set, defending Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore libero Brooklyn Holland took over serving duties for the Roughriders and turned the tides with a couple of aces that moved the score to 12-11 in favor of Yavapai.

After a big kill from sophomore right hitter Samantha Holman and a great block from sophomore middle blocker Keyaira Gravitt, the Roughriders found themselves with a 20-15 advantage and eventually won the set 25-16.

Up 1-0, set two for the Roughriders could be characterized as the set where you did not want to be in the way of a ball that freshman outside hitters Kierslynn Wright or Sophia Parlanti hit. The duo torched the Thunderbirds with ferocious kills all set long and eventually paved the way for a 25-17 victory.

With a sweep on the horizon, the Roughriders jumped ahead 8-1 in set three and never looked back, eventually winning the set on a kill from Wright with a 25-16 final score.

For the Roughriders, it's their seventh sweep of the year and third inside of Walraven Gymnasium.
