TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Yavapai College Volleyball team came up short Friday night against the Aztecs of Pima Community College, losing in four sets to move its overall record to 8-10 and conference record to 2-3.

Set one was a back-and-forth affair with the largest lead by either team being three points. Tied 21-21, freshman outside hitter Kierslynn Wright registered a clutch kill to take a narrow lead.

After an Aztec point, sophomore middle blocker Paiten Langston and freshman outside hitter Sophia Parlanti teamed up on a huge block to take a 23-22 lead. After a couple of Pima errors, the Roughriders took the set 25-22.

Set two was much the same as set one with both teams going back and forth and eventually finding themselves tied at 20-20. This time, however, Pima went on a big run and evened the match with a 25-21 set-two victory.

In set three, the Roughriders found themselves in a big hole at 20-12, before scoring five-consecutive points, forcing the Aztecs to call a timeout at 20-17. Unfortunately, the comeback fell short as Pima took the next five points to win the set 25-17 and take a 2-1 lead.

Set four was a heartbreaker as Yavapai earned a 23-21 advantage and looked to be just a couple of plays away from a winner-take-all fifth set. The Aztecs, however, rattled off four-consecutive points to take the set and the match.
