Marc MacMillan joins Yavapai as the program's 8th head coach. He takes over the Roughriders after coaching stops at Charleston Southern, Ole Miss, Arkansas-Pine Bluff to name a few plus serving as a scout for the Seattle Mariners.Â
From 2020–2024, MacMillan served as Head Coach at Charleston Southern University, guiding the Buccaneers to their best three-year run since 1998-2000. In 2021, CSU won its first four Big South series ever, including its first road sweep since 2011. In 2022, the Bucs finished as Big South Tournament Runner-Up for the first time since 1996, defeating the #1, #2, and #4 seeds. The 2024 squad earned the program’s best regular-season conference finish since 2011 and defeated the #1 seed in the BSC Tournament. MacMillan assisted in developing future MLB Draft picks Evan Truitt (12th round/Seattle) and RJ Petit (14th round/Detroit) plus former Buccaneers Ryan Waldschmidt (31st overall/2024) and Nick Rodriguez (10th round/2025). Rodriguez was only the second Freshman All-American in program history as recognized by Collegiate Baseball Magazine. His teams also included professional signees in the Pioneer and Frontier Leagues plus World Baseball Classic participant Daniel Padysak.
MacMillan’s teams excelled academically, earning a 3.0+ GPA and ABCA Academic Excellence Award recognition all four seasons, while his fundraising and camp operations generated significant growth and community engagement.
From 2014 to 2020, as director of operations and assistant at Ole Miss, MacMillan helped the Rebels reach five NCAA Regionals, win the 2014 SEC Western Division title, capture the 2018 SEC Tournament championship, finish Runner Up in the 2019 SEC Tournament, win 16 games in a row in 2020 plus earn a College World Series berth in 2014. Ole Miss tied a program record for wins (48) twice during his tenure and landed the nation’s #1 recruiting class in 2017. He coached multiple All-SEC players and 7 outfielders selected in the MLB Draft, including JB Woodman (57th overall/Blue Jays).
At Arkansas–Pine Bluff, he recruited athletes from 14 states and two countries, producing the SWAC "POY" in shortstop Isias Alcantar, four MLB Draft picks, and was instrumental in the Golden Lions back-to-back-to-back Western Division championships.
MacMillan also coached at Arkansas-Monticello, Crichton College, Memphis University School, and with the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association's Team Tennessee, capturing two Sunbelt Championships and producing 19 MLB Draft picks. His coaching tree includes staff that have served at East Carolina, Jacksonville, Hawaii, Ohio State, Southern Miss, Tulane, Washington, and the NY Mets to name a few.
MacMillan was a four year letterman for the Rebels (1992-96) where he was a utility player under head coach Don Kessinger. He was a member of the 1995 NCAA Regional team that won 40 games before falling to Florida State in the Regional Championship, just shy of earning a berth to the College World Series on.
He earned his degree in Business Administration from Ole Miss before going on to earn a Master's of Science in Sport Administration from Canisius College. MacMillan is married to the former Andrea Adams of Memphis, TN. They have two kids, Tanner (8) and Ava (5).Â
