2022 Coach Vanderheyden

Ryder Vanderheyden

Vanderheyden enters his second season with the Roughriders in the fall of 2023. 

In 2022, Vanderheyden helped guide the Roughriders to a 9-4-1 overall record and runner-up finish in the region-title match. 

From 2004-08, Vanderheyden was the head assistant coach at the Dominican University of California. Following his stint at Dominican, Vanderheyden was the head soccer and basketball coach at Emery High School from 2009-18. While coaching at Emery, Vanderheyden also taught physical education at Lisa Kampner Academy from 2016-18. 

As a player, he played at Santa Barbara City College from 1998-2000 and earned All-State Southern California honors. He then played at Chico State University from 2001-03 and was an All-CCCAA Selection. 

Other playing stops for Vanderheyden include the Greek Americans SF from 1994-2000 and 2005-07 (won the US Open Cup Championship in 1994) and the Chico Rooks from 2001-04. 

Vanderheyden also earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Chico State University in 2004.
