PRESCOTT, Ariz. (August 29, 2025)
The Yavapai Women's Soccer team played in their non-conference match this evening versus visiting #13 Laramie County Community College! The game took place at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Field in Prescott, AZ, and Yavapai upset the nationally ranked team 2-1!
In the first half, Laramie scored early. From there on, great defensive plays came from
Mia Howser and
Liberty Baker, with
Talon Bennett making a few key saves. Yavapai had some shots on the opponent's goal, which came primarily from
Bethanee Vargas,
Sophia Fottrell,
Reagan Peterson, and
Nataly Arangure.
The second half had the Roughriders stepping up the game! Two goals were scored on Laramie's Goalkeeper! The first came from
Jill Young, assisted by
Liberty Baker. The second came from
Nataly Arangure, assisted by
Lilliana Baker.
Talon Bennett allowed zero goals in the second half. Defensive plays came in from
Haley Cody,
Sophia Herrera, and
Morgan McLane.
Yavapai upset #13 Laramie County 2-1!
Nataly Arangure, one of the goal scorers, says, "All the hard work paid off. We poured our heart onto the field, leading us to another victory and keeping our winning streak alive!"
"I'm extremely proud of this team for continuing to believe in the process," says Head Coach
Rozie DeWeese. "We had a slow start against a very good team. We regrouped during halftime and came out with a different mentality. More energy on our sideline, more aggressive in our ball winning, and more composed in connecting passes to create scoring chances. Truly a full team effort for the win tonight!"
Yavapai is 3-0 to start the season.
