PRESCOTT, Ariz. (November 5, 2025)
The Yavapai Men's basketball team had their home opener tonight against New Mexico Military Institute, where they came back from being down over 10 points, tied the game to send it to overtime, and won in overtime!
Yavapai won their first home game 81-79 against the Broncos of NMMI.
Yavapai's offense was stagnant for three quarters of the game, but things started to pick back up in the final 3 minutes when
Jason Parent went on a mighty run, getting off 10 points to nearly tie the game.
With Yavapai down by 3 with 7 seconds left,
Alex Pierce was passed the ball, and he made a heroic game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, Pierce stayed in and continued to flourish as the Broncos defense got tired. Game extending plays from
Torin Bosch and
Raijon Dispensa helped Yavapai keep the lead, and eventually win 81-79 by the end of the final buzzer.
It is clear that the Yavapai home crowd got their money's worth in this game, as their loud cheers and support for the team really helped the Roughriders push themselves to the win!
Jason Parent had that second half surge, and he helped his team to the win with 25 points.
Torin Bosch had a great night as well, scoring 23, going 11-12 from the free throw line.
Alex Pierce only had his first field goal in the closing seconds of the second half, but his effort pushed him to score 7 additional points in overtime, ending the night with 10.
YC is now 2-1 on the season, and 1-0 at home.
