YUMA, Ariz. (October 28, 2025)
Yavapai Men's Soccer has just done the unthinkable by upsetting the 2-seeded #6 Arizona Western Matadors on the road in the ACCAC D1 Men's Soccer Semi-Finals! Yavapai is headed back to the ACCAC Championship match!
The game was knotted up 2-2 by the end of regulation. The two Yavapai goals were scored by
Andres Pulido (Unassisted) and
Cesar da Silva (Assisted by
Dante Espino-Kennedy).
The game went into two 10-minute overtime periods, and neither team would allow another goal to be scored.
The final score would be determined by the Penalty Kick Shootout -- the team that scores more Penalty Kicks wins the game. While Pulido and da Silva both missed their shots, Yavapai would rally back, scoring 5 straight penalty kicks! These kicks were made by
Blake Robinson,
Dante Espino-Kennedy,
Ansel Ledezma,
Kaketo Sonoda, and
Jair Montoya.
Goalkeeper
Daniel Alexis Medina Gonzalez allowed 2 goals during regulation, no goals during the overtime, and 4 penalty kicks during the shootout. The Matador penalty kicker attempted to tie the shootout at 5 apiece, but he missed the goal wide right, sending The Roughriders back to the championship game, and stunning the #6-ranked Matadors.
