Yavapai Women's Soccer Match Results in the Team's Third Straight Tie

Yavapai Ties with College of Southern Nevada

10/8/2024 10:37:00 PM

Another Women's Soccer match, another tie! The Yavapai College Roughriders faced off against the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes earlier tonight, and the match was a close one, as the game ended in a 1-1 tie, their third tie in a row, and their fourth on the season.
The first half included much needed defense against the opposition, as #27 Chloe Brand and #24 Ade Bonner had to save the day a few times on the far side of the field. Of course, the defense was held up tremendously by #00 Talon Bennett, as she made many clutch saves within the first half. As far as offense, there were only a few shots on the opponent's goal, including two shots from #2 Ziyana De Los Reyes Guerrero, one from #13 Paola Carrillo, and another from #9 Sophia Fottrell. The away team had many more shots on goal, and it was up to the defense to hold down the fort. As they were able to fend off the attacks, a shot from #14 Eva Diaz was denied, but soon after to close the half, #26 Sophia Herrera scored Yavapai's first and only goal of the game.
The second half started, and Talon Bennett had been substituted for #1 Poppy Anderson, who also had a large responsibility in this game. CSN was bringing on the heat as they were relentless with their shot attempts, but Anderson was able to stave off the majority of them, with the help from "Z" De Los Reyes Guerrero and Chloe Brand. Guerrero was also able to get off another shot, as well as a #10 Kiera Campbell shot, which was able to happen because of a large hustle play made by #7 Maddie Antonini. However, the defense and hustle could not overpower the Coyote's offense, as a defensive breakdown led to Southern Nevada scoring their first and only goal. Carrillo got back to back shot attempts off of a penalty kick, and Fottrell was able to get another shot off too. #3 Jill Young subbed into the game and made a huge effort by taking three massive shots on the goal, which were all close to making in into the back of the net. With the game tied at 1-1, and one minute remaining, #16 Reagan Peterson was able to get one last shot off before the buzzer, but that pesky CSN goalie tipped it away, and the game was over.
