Men's Soccer Cannot Complete Comeback Against Mohave

Yavapai Falls 1-2

Box Score     Many fans came out to today's Men's Soccer game versus Mohave Community College in anticipation to see their Roughriders win big against the visiting Bighorns, but not all dreams can come true. In their final home game of the season, Yavapai College fell in a hard fought battle, losing 1 point to their 2.
Goalkeeper #99 Maximiliano Ionita was looking to keep his hot streak alive this match, as he was looking to close out the season by not having any goals scored on him at home since September 10th. However, that would end up not happening, as a goal would be scored on him, one in each half. However, he did manage to make some clutch saves to keep the Bighorns from racking up the score. Ionita also had some defensive help throughout the game, specifically from #6 Tyler Loveridge and #19 Kodee Karcher teaming up to keep the ball away from their side of the field. A little later on, #11 Anthony Khananisho and #5 Nate Claudio would team up together to fend off some Mohave goals. #4 Erick Quirarte would also help out on the defensive side of things, and he would help out a lot more offensively later on in the game. Speaking of offense, there were many shots on the opponent's goal this half. Three shots from #24 Ian Lama followed by three more shots from #17 Jacob Vincent; these initial tries would help set the tone for the rest of the half. #16 Rashaad Powery would join in on the shot-taking action, as well as Karcher, Khananisho, and #7 David Murillo, but to nearly close out the first half, Mohave would end up striking first.
In the second half, tensions were starting as Yavapai was trailing. Ian Lama was trying effortlessly to get his team in the game, as he would yell to inspire his teammates to get their heads in the game and think smarter. After this, Claudio made a great defensive play, which led to yet another Jacob Vincent shot. But Mohave came out of halftime hot as well, as they came in and scored pretty quick into this half. Lama would take two more shots, and as he missed both of them, he became increasingly more visibly frustrated with himself. They were great shots, to be fair, but the Mohave Bighorns defense was immaculate and clamping. Not many more shots on their goal were taken, as they were able to keep the ball away from their side of the field for most of the game. However, the tide started to change and a few substituted Yavapai players began to get in on the action and start creating some offense. #3 Gio Orozco took a shot, followed by #14 Brandon Fischer and #22 Dante Espino-Kennedy. #21 Iker Villalba had his chance too, but the one to score the first and only Yavapai goal would be Erick Quirarte. To say this goal changed the tide of things is a bit of an exaggeration, as no more goals from either side were scored, but it got the home team and crowd back into the game. David Murillo, Kodee Karcher, amd #15 Michael Ochoa would take a couple shots on the goal, but that was about it. Yavapai fell 1-2 in their final home game of the 2024 season.
