Another Women's Soccer Game, Another Tie

Yavapai and Mohave WSOC tie at 0-0

10/12/2024 11:14:00 PM

Yes, that is correct, another tie. The Yavapai Women's Soccer team manages to notch their fifth tie game this season, tying the amount of games they have outright won this season thus far. Better yet, this is also the second tie game of this season to reach a 0-0 final score. Although the score does not show it, this was a very competitive game, as both sides were such evenly matched teams with great defenses that this score seemed bound to happen from the start.

As stated above, this was a very defense-heavy matchup between two teams who were so ready to score, but could not manage to do such a thing. However, shots were taken from both sides of the field, including early shots from #7 Maddie Antonini, two shots from #10 Kiera Campbell, and another from #17 Morgan McLane. These shots were few and far between, as defensive plays were the talk of the town during this game. Defensive contributions were made from McLane, #4 Ava Manwill, #2 Ziyana De Los Reyes Guerrero, and of course, #00 Talon Bennett, who was actually able to keep her home game keeping stretch alive, as no one would score on her today. As defense from both sides kicked in, some more offensive plays would eke out in this back-and-forth masterpiece. Shots from #13 Paola Carrillo, #9 Sophia Fottrell, #24 Ade Bonner, and #27 Chloe Brand, would all be made at various points throughout the first half, and Bennett and Brand defensive plays would keep the score settled still. But it was clear something was off. This team that played against the Bighorns tonight did not seem as aggressive to start the game as usual. Many balls that would usually be fought for by the Roughriders were turned into easy giveaways for their opponents. Although there was defense, there happened to be many last-ditch efforts to try and keep the ball away from the goal, rather than nipping those problems in the bud a little earlier with some defensive strategies. This would eventually change a little bit in the first half, but there did not seem to be any hustle from the home team.

The second half started, and Kiera Campbell would continue to take a few more shots, but took a hard ball to the face and had to exit the game for a while, losing some offense in the process. To make up for it, #23 Allison Eske checked into the game and began to try her luck towards the back of the net, but her one shot attempt was thwarted at the very last second, saving the audience from having to witness one of those awful home team goals they clearly did not want to see. A little while after, Coach Rozie DeWeese had an argument over a bad foul call with the referee, and he politely asked her to leave the game in the form of a little red card. Sometimes, when teams see that their leader has been removed, they urge for a change in their game plan. This was what Maddie Antonini was attempting to inspire within her team, as she made a great hustle play by sprinting towards a loose ball that was much outside of her reach, which would lead to another Chloe Brand shot attempt. Other than that play, however, there was not much the Roughriders would do, as Mohave stepped up their defense and did not let another shot attempt happen for a majority of the second half. To be clear, Mohave did not do much to step up their offense either, so it made it seem as though Yavapai had a lock-down defensive strategy as well, but as far as the final score was concerned, 0-0 would finish the game, and Yavapai would notch yet another tie to their roster.
