Men’s Soccer Posts Dominant Victory Over Paradise Valley

9/17/2023 12:38:00 AM

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The Yavapai College men's soccer team scored early and often on Saturday night at Ken Lindley Field as it defeated the Pumas of Paradise Valley Community College 8-1 to improve to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

"The boys did a great job tonight," Head Coach Chris Houser said after the victory. "We are approaching the hardest part of the season and scoring goals will obviously be paramount to our success in addition to keeping mistakes to a minimum. We had a solid team performance tonight."

Sophomore midfielder Austin Pearcy got the scoring started for the Roughriders on Saturday night, beating the PVCC keeper just seven minutes into the game to give YC a 1-0 lead.

10 minutes later, freshman forward Jorge Quintero found the back of the net to bring the score to 2-0 before the first half water break.

With 13 minutes left to play in the first half, sophomore forward Arthur Coscas beat a Puma defender, before touching it past the goalkeeper to score his second goal of the season and give the Roughriders a 3-0 advantage.

After halftime, Paradise Valley scored just four minutes into the second half to try and make a game of it, however, the Roughriders scored five unanswered goals after the Puma goal to cruise to an 8-1 victory.

Of the five goals, Quintero (a beautifully placed rocket) and Pearcy (a well placed shot off a deflection off a corner kick) each tallied another one to complete two-goals games. Quintero now leads the team with five on the season while Pearcy has three.

Freshman forward Luis Medina and freshman midfielder Anthony Khananisho each tallied their first goals of the season in the second half and sophomore defender Aiden Harrell buried a penalty kick to take home his second goal of the season and complete the scoring for YC.
