9/24/2022 11:33:00 PM

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The Yavapai College women's soccer team shattered its record for most goals scored by a Roughrider team in a single game on Saturday night at Ken Lindley Field as the Roughriders dismantled the South Mountain Community College Cougars by a score of 12-0. The previous record for single-game goals for YC was five which the 2021 team achieved on two separate occasions.

With the win, the Roughriders push their winning streak to four games and move to 5-4 overall with a 4-0 conference record.

In the blink of an eye, Yavapai tallied eight goals in a 25-minute span in the first half.

Sophomore forward Hanna Urtado struck first in the match and one minute after scoring, she assisted on freshman forward Julie Reyes' goal for a quick 2-0 lead.

One minute after the pair of goals, sophomore forward AJ Jones scored on a breakaway and the Roughriders benefitted from an "own goal" off of a South Mountain player to increase their lead to 4-0.

Sophomore midfielder Dani Mares took home the next goal for YC with sophomore forward Samantha Slaughter cashing in on the assist. After Mares, Urtado scored her second goal of the match while Jones assisted the score as YC ballooned its advantage to 6-0.

Seconds after Urtado's second score of the night, Reyes knocked a ball into the back of the net for her second score of the night with freshman midfielder Miranda Pena collecting the assist.

The final score of the first half came off the foot of freshman midfielder Angelina De Leon while Pena took home the assist on that score as well.

The teams then headed into the break with YC leading 8-0. After a quiet start to the second half, the Roughriders mounted a fast and furious finish to the match, scoring four times in a ten-minute span to bring the game to its final of 12-0.

Sophomore forward Isabella Merino scored the first goal of the second half with sophomore forward Annie Robson taking home the assist on the play.

A few minutes later, freshman defender Ziyana De Los Reyes Guerrero pushed the lead to double-digits with a goal while Merino and Robson took home the assists.

One minute after the Guerrero score, Pena found the back of the net for a goal and was assisted by Slaughter on the play.

Five minutes after Pena's tally, the Roughriders final goal of the day came from freshman midfielder Marissa Pond who was assisted by Slaughter and Robson.

In net, freshman goalkeeper Morgan Trail took home the win while playing the first half. She split the shutout with fellow freshman goalkeeper Makenzie Stanton who played the second half.
