PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. -- On what was a chilly, fall night at Mountain Valley Park, the Yavapai College men's soccer team was shutout by the Mesa Community College Thunderbirds in a 3-0 decision.

After watching 30 minutes of play, it would have been tough to convince anyone that the Roughriders would not find the back of the net on the night. Yavapai dominated the pace of play on what seemed to be a tilted field.

The plethora of scoring opportunities, however, just weren't converted into goals on the night and the Thunderbirds took a 1-0 lead with 17 minutes left in the first half on a corner kick that was headed into the short side of the goal.

Down 1-0, the Roughriders continued to push the pace, seeing almost all of the game action in their offensive zone, however, could not convert on the scoring opportunities.

After halftime, the Roughriders earned a couple of great scoring chances, however, saw the Thunderbirds respond with a goal on the other end to take a 2-0 lead.

With just over 19 minutes to go in the match, Mesa put the finishing touches on the game with a breakaway goal that was touched nicely past the Roughrider goalkeeper.

On the season, the Roughriders are now 5-4-1 overall and 1-1-1 in ACCAC play.
