Men’s Soccer Battles To Tie With Paradise Valley

9/21/2021 9:49:00 PM

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The Yavapai College men's soccer team battled the Paradise Valley Pumas to a 2-2 tie in its first ACCAC match of the season Tuesday on what was a hot afternoon in Phoenix.

The Roughriders jumped to an early 1-0 lead on a Christopher Cornn first time finish off a Jesse Maldonado feed to the far post.

Maldonado made the lead 2-0 on a curling free kick to beat the Puma goalkeeper in the upper 90.

Paradise Valley would put pressure on the Roughriders in the second half and eventually their persistence paid off on a rebound goal off of a corner kick clearance in the 68th minute. Ten minutes later, the Pumas would capitalize on a counter attack to even the score at 2-2.

The Riders continued knocking on the door in both overtime stanzas with four great looks by Dauda Woodruff and Maldonado.

On the season, Yavapai is now 4-3-1 overall and 0-0-1 in ACCAC play.
