PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- Seven games into its inaugural season, the Yavapai College women's soccer team sits at 3-4 heading into conference play in 2021. This week, the Roughriders are on the road and at home, kicking off ACCAC play on Saturday.
The Games
The action starts Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in Tucson, Arizona, where Yavapai takes on No. 7-ranked Pima Community College. After a few off days, the Roughriders return home for their first conference match of the season, a 3 p.m. game on Saturday against Cochise College at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott.
Saturday's match will be available to watch on
GoRoughriders.com/Live. Individual broadcasts can be purchased for $8 while a season pass for broadcasts can be purchased for $35.
Ticket prices for the match are as follows: $7 for adults, $5 for seniors (55 and older) and students and free for children (0-6), Yavapai students with ID and Yavapai staff and faculty with ID.
The Aztecs
No. 7-ranked Pima Community College comes into its matchup with Yavapai at 4-1 with wins over Phoenix, Glendale, Mesa and Chandler-Gilbert. Pima's lone loss on the season was its most recent game: 2-0 against Scottsdale last Saturday.
The Apaches
Cochise College comes into its matchup with Yavapai at a perfect 4-0 with wins over the College of Southern Nevada, Gateway, Glendale and Chandler-Gilbert. The Apaches will have two additional matches under their belt before taking on Yavapai as they also play Mesa on Tuesday and Phoenix on Thursday.
The Roughriders
Last week featured two polar opposite game scripts for Yavapai. The Roughriders convincingly defeated Gateway on the strength of freshman forward Emma Alvarez's hat trick (the first in program history) then followed with a shutout loss against No. 20-ranked Arizona Western. The split moved Yavapai's record to 3-4 overall with 12 regular season games left in its inaugural season.
One Last Thing
The Aztecs will be the second-consecutive NJCAA ranked opponent that the Roughriders will face, bringing the total to three (so far) on the season. A Tuesday victory would be the first road win and win over a ranked opponent in program history.
Players To Watch
Freshman forward Dani Mares is the only Roughrider with multiple goals and assists this season. Look for Mares to continue to be effective offensively.
