Women’s Soccer Edged by Chandler-Gilbert

PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- On a cool, overcast night with rain clouds to the north of Ken Lindley Field, the Yavapai College women's soccer team made its debut in Prescott, after having played its first three games in Prescott Valley to start the year.

Unfortunately for the Roughriders, the Chandler-Gilbert Community College Coyotes scored the lone goal of the match, earning a 1-0 victory. Yavapai now sits at 2-2 on the young season.

The first half was a flurry of possession changes with little offensive rhythm for either side and quick scoring chances that were quickly stopped. The biggest play of the half came from goalkeeper Lauryn Mayhan who faced a breakaway opportunity from a Coyote forward with about seven minutes left to play in the half.

Being chased from behind, Chandler's forward took a quick shot and saw Mayhan make a kick-save with her left leg, keeping the match scoreless.

Following the save, the teams went into halftime still scoreless.

The second half was much of the same as the first half, however, the Coyotes wound up capitalizing on a breakaway opportunity with 26 minutes left to go in the game.

Up 1-0, Chandler-Gilbert held the Roughriders off of the scoresheet and took home the victory.
