Women’s Soccer Falls in Tuesday Night Contest

8/24/2021 7:54:00 PM

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. -- The Yavapai College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday night at Mountain Valley Park with a 5-1 loss to the No. 4-ranked Badgers of Snow College. The Roughriders are now 2-1-0 on the season, heading into conference play.

After a couple of scoring opportunities early for the Roughriders, Snow College started to control the possession. Yavapai goalkeeper Lauryn Mayhan held strong, making a couple of nice saves to start the game, however, saw the Badgers take a 1-0 lead on a breakaway goal 10 minutes into the game.

That score would remain true until the end of the half where the Badgers tallied two goals with under four minutes to go, ballooning their advantage to 3-0 heading into halftime.

Snow College stayed hot coming out of the break, scoring its fourth goal of the game just 30 seconds into the second-half.

Down 4-0, the Roughriders chipped away at the Snow College lead with a goal at the 38 minute mark of the second-half. Forward Ashlynn Jones lined up for a corner kick and saw her kick hit the back of the net after a header from midfielder Isabella Merino for a beautiful goal.

Yavapai was held off the scoresheet for the remainder of the match and Snow College added a goal to bring the final score to 5-1.
