Men’s Soccer Drops Contest In Double Overtime

8/24/2021 11:07:00 PM

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. -- The Yavapai College men's soccer team conceded its first loss of the season Tuesday night at Mountain Valley Park with a 2-1 double-overtime loss against the No. 9-ranked Badgers of Snow College.

The first half was characterized by some incredible plays from the Roughriders in what turned out to be a gritty, physical match. Goalkeeper Hudson Bodily made some athletic saves to keep the score at zero's and Jesse Maldonado, Dauda Woodruff and Mael Lopes nearly scored throughout the period.

Yavapai eventually broke through and took a 1-0 lead with a goal with 1:45 left in the first-half. The aforementioned Maldonado sent a hard shot off of the Badger goalkeeper followed by Josue Martinez collecting the loose rebound and depositing it into the back of the net.

After the half, Yavapai continued to apply pressure on the Badgers but to no avail. Snow College, meanwhile, found themselves with a free kick about 25 yards away from the Rider net with just over 17 minutes left in regulation. The Badgers capitalized on the opportunity and sent a rocket to the top-left corner of the net to tie the game.

The score would remain 1-1 until the double-overtime period where the Badgers took home the 2-1 victory after scoring on a header off of a corner kick.
