Yavapai College Women’s Soccer Wins Second Consecutive Game

8/22/2021 12:28:00 PM

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. -- Yavapai College Women's Soccer won its second consecutive game on Saturday afternoon. The team also earned its first ever defensive shutout by beating visiting Community Christian College by a score of 4-0.

It did not take long for the Roughriders to get on the scoreboard. Forward Hanna Urtado scored her first collegiate goal, unassisted from twelve yards out, just 1:30 into the start of the game.  Midfielder Ally Barmettler also scored her first collegiate goal on a twenty-yard shot, unassisted, in the twenty 21st to extend the Yavapai lead by two goals heading into half-time.

Urtado scored her second goal of the game, on another unassisted effort, in the eightieth minute, from twenty-five yards out. Rounding out the scoring efforts for the game was a brilliant volley goal by Forward Emma Alvarez in the 86th minute, on a laser service from Midfielder Shayley Webster.

Strong defensive efforts by the entire team lead to the program's first ever shutout, holding Community Christian to just one shot in the game. Yavapai Goalkeeper Lauryn Mayhan recorded only one save for the day, playing behind a solid line of defenders and defensive midfielders, including: Hailey Mayhan, Alondra Lares, Emma Pascoe, Destini Munoz, Miriam Zabibu, Gabby Gareau, Mia Torres and Kylee Stanford.

"We defended well through tired legs and did a much better job today of playing to our feet when under pressure," said Head Coach Rozie DeWeese. "We were also able to create a large amount of shooting opportunities today, against a very good Goalkeeper for Community Christian. Overall, I'm happy with the result and excited to continue growing as a program in the areas we need to keep improving."
