8/18/2021 11:30:00 AM

PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- The Yavapai College women's soccer team takes the field for the first time in history Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley, kicking off its inaugural season in 2021.

"This is a great day for Yavapai College and the athletic department," Director of Athletics Brad Clifford said. "The addition of women's soccer is a natural fit in our area and will bring another level of excitement to Roughrider athletics."

The Games
The aforementioned historical match takes place Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley with the Roughriders' first opponent being the Coyotes of the College of Southern Nevada.

After the conclusion of its first game, the Riders will rest on Friday before their second match of the season on Saturday against Community Christian College. That match will take place at 2 p.m. at Mountain Valley Park as well.

Both games will be available to watch on GoRoughriders.com/Live. Individual broadcasts can be purchased for $8 while a season pass for broadcasts can be purchased for $35.

Ticket prices for the match are as follows: $7 for adults, $5 for seniors (55 and older) and students and free for children (0-6), Yavapai students with ID and Yavapai staff and faculty with ID.

The Coyotes
Last season, the College of Southern Nevada went 3-9 and saw its season end in the Region 18 Tournament with a loss to Salt Lake Community College.

Community Christian College
Community Christian College is a private two-year college located in Redlands, California.

The Roughriders
Leading the Roughrider charge is Head Coach Rozie DeWeese who brings in a plethora of coaching experience with stops at Sacramento State, UC-Davis and Indiana State University.

"We are all very excited to play our first game of the season and the first game ever for our program," Coach DeWeese said. "We have an amazing group of young women and I am extremely proud of them for all of the hard work, time, energy and love that they have already put into this program!

"This is only the beginning. We are proud to be Yavapai College Roughriders and we look forward to the support of the community in helping us achieve great things throughout the season and beyond."

DeWeese's squad features 20 student-athletes, all of which have freshman eligibility.

One Last Thing
Yavapai's first ever soccer match featured a 4-3 victory from the men's team against St. Louis-Forest Park in 1989.
