In the final regular season doubleheader, the Roughrider softball team swept their eighth consecutive ACCAC doubleheader over the Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters, 9-4 and 15-1. YC finishes the regular season with a 31-5 overall record and 26-2 in conference play. The 2021 Roughrider team is the only Yavapai Softball team that went through the regular season undefeated against fellow Division I teams.
In the opener, YC scored 7 unanswered runs before EAC scored two runs in the fifth inning. YC put 2 more runs on in the final two innings to secure the victory.
Alyssa Carpio led the offensive charge going 4 for 4 with a triple and a double.
Mia Weckel was 3 for 5 with a double and a triple.
Jocelyn Ulrich was 2 for 4 with a home run and 3 runs batted in.
Emily Dix threw 4 innings for the victory and
Cassie Elliott threw the final 3 innings.
YC had 13 hits in the second game five for extra bases.
Miki Berg, Isabella Porreco and
Jocelyn Ulrich knocked home runs. Kamryn Makakaiwi got the victory throwing 3 innings and striking out four.
Yavapai hosts the NJCAA Region I Division I Tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 13, 14 and 15. YC is the #1 seed; Arizona Western and Central Arizona is the #2 and #3 seed and Eastern Arizona is the #4 seed. Yavapai will begin play on Thursday, May 14
th at 1 PM against Eastern Arizona College. The winner of the tournament advanced to the NJCAA Softball World Series in Yuma, AZ.
