Once again, the Roughrider baseball team played the spoiler as they upset the #2 seed and host Pima Community College Friday afternoon, 17-10. The Roughriders advance to the winner's bracket championship game on Saturday in Tucson.
 
The Roughriders found a way to win despite 5 miscues in the field and being outhit by the Aztecs. YC had two big innings with the biggest being in the 9
th frame where they posted 7 runs to break a 10-10 tie.
 
YC led from the get go scoring 2 runs in the top of the first on a 
Noah Turley two-run home run. Pima scored one run in their half of the inning and took the lead in the bottom of the 3
rd posting two runs. Yavapai scored six runs in the top of the fourth to regain the lead and added two more in the fifth inning. Pima added three runs in the bottom half of the fifth to make the score 10-6. Pima tied the game in the bottom of the 8
th inning. The Roughriders took control of the game in the top of the ninth putting 7 runs on the board and 
Nathan Ward put the Aztecs down in order in the bottom of the ninth.

CJ Valdez each had 3 hits and all three hit home runs. 
Kade York and 
Alton Gyselman had two hits apiece. 
Nathan Ward threw the final inning to garner the victory.
 
Yavapai faces Arizona Western College on Saturday at 11:00 AM. Arizona Western beat Pima Friday afternoon to eliminate the Aztecs giving the Matadors another chance at the Roughriders. If YC wins the game, they will advance to next weekend's championship series against either Central Arizona College or South Mountain Community College. If Arizona Western wins the game, another game will be played immediately following with the winner advancing and the loser's season will conclude. Tomorrow's game will begin at 11:00 AM.
