The Roughrider baseball team split a doubleheader with the #1 ranked team in NJCAA Division I Central Arizona College, dropping the opener 9-6 and coming from behind in the second game winning 9-8. YC is now 18-13 overall and 13-9 in conference play.

In the first game, the Roughriders outhit the Vaqueros 10-8 but left 8 runners on base. The Vaqueros struck first with a single run in the second inning and 2 runs in the top of the fourth. YC responded with 2 runs in their of the inning but Central Arizona scored 4 runs in the 5
th inning to extend the lead to 7-2. Yavapai scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 6
th inning to pull within one. Central Arizona scored 2 insurance runs in the 7
th to secure the victory.

Kenneth Jimenez was 2 for 4.
Amari Bartee and
CJ Valdez each hit home runs.

In the nightcap, Yavapai scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 8
th inning to take the lead for good.
Lance Kelly knocked the winning home run.

Damone Hale was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored.
TJ Wheeler was 2 for 3 with a home run and Kelly was 2 for 4.
Kenneth Jimenez was 1 for 2 with 2 runs batted.

Nathan Ward threw five innings in relief to get the victory. Ward struck out 4 batters.

YC continues ACCAC Division I competition on Saturday, April 10
th entertaining Cochise College. The first pitch will be at 12:00 PM.

Admission will be limited to the first 50 fans. The gates will be opened at 11:30 AM. Admission fees are: $7 for adults, $5 for students, veterans, senior citizens, children 6 and under are free. Yavapai College students, staff and faculty are free with ID.
