Team Sweet Against Pima

The #12 ranked Roughrider softball team swept a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Bill Vallely Field over fellow ACCAC Division I foe Pima Community College, 11-3 and 22-9. Yavapai improves their overall record to 25-5 and 20-2 in conference play. Pima falls to 8-14 on the season.
 
In the opener, the Roughriders broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning with five runs on three home runs by Cheyenne Sandoval, Jocelyn Ulrich and Miki Berg. YC added a lone run in the fifth inning and four in the sixth frame. Five Roughrider batters had multiple hits led by Cheyenne Sandoval going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles, a home run, three runs scored and three runs batted in. Alyssa Carpio, Miki Berg, Jocelyn Ulrich and Mia Weckel all had two hits apiece. Weckel knocked a homer. Emily Dix went the distance in the circle for the victory. The freshman righthander scattered six hits and struck out four.
 
In the nightcap, the Green and Gold offense continued knocking 22 hits 12 for extra bases. YC scored multiple runs in each inning. Pima led the game off scoring two runs in the opening frame. The Roughriders responded with 3 runs in their half of the inning and added 8 runs in the second inning, five in the third and six in the fourth inning. Kayla Rodgers and Miki Berg were each 4 for 4. Berg had a triple and two home runs and Rodgers had 3 doubles. Mia Weckel and Mikaela Payne had three hits apiece. Weckel scored four runs and Payne had 6 RBI's and grand slam. Megan Parsley and Isabella Porreco had two hits each with both knocking homers. Head Coach Doug Eastman used three pitchers in the victory, Kamryn Kamakaiwi, Leona Joshua and Alyssa Carpio.
 
The Roughriders play these same Aztecs scheduled for Tuesday in Tucson weather permitting. The twinbill is slated to begin at 1:00 PM.
