Soccer Notches 13 Goals in 2021 Spring Season Opener

4/2/2021 12:07:00 PM

On a rare Thursday afternoon match, the Roughrider soccer team notched 13 goals in their 2021 Spring season opener and debut of new head coach Andre Luciano. YC threw a shutout beating Community Christian College out of Redlands, CA, 13-0. Yavapai is now 28-3-0 all-time in season openers.

The Roughriders began the scoring 38 seconds into the match on a goal by Carlos Nunez assisted by Loic Baures. Jonathan Mayen scored two goals in the opening half and Enrique Zamora, Iann Topete and Dauda Woodruff all found the net in the first half.

Isaac Flores, Tucker Fenton, Christopher Cornn, Carlos Nunez and Iann Topete each scored a goal in the second half. Local product Cade Tutrone scored twice in the half. Hudson Bodily and Josue Ruiz each played 45 minutes in goal for the combined shutout.

"We are truly grateful for the opportunity to play after such a long layoff. We wanted to assert ourselves from the beginning of the game and having Carlos Nunez open the game with a goal 38 seconds into the match gave us a chance to relax and get into a rhythm," commented Luciano.

He added, "This game is now behind us and as a team we will continue to address areas that we need correct and prepare for our match on Saturday vs Pima. Thank you for the continued fan support and the amazing job the City of Prescott Parks and Recreation did to prepare the field on such short notice."

YC opens conference play on Saturday, April 3rd entertaining Pima Community College. The match will be played at Ken Lindley Field beginning at 6:00 PM.
