It was a busy day for Yavapai College Athletics. Softball swept a doubleheader from Scottsdale Community College; Soccer beat Paradise Valley Community College; and Baseball split a doubleheader with Pima Community College.

Softball
The 14
th ranked Roughrider softball team scored 25 runs on 31 hits, 14 for extra bases including 6 home runs in a doubleheader sweep of Scottsdale Community College, 10-0 and 15-6. The victories improve their overall record to 23-5 and an 18-2 conference record.

In the opener,
Emily Dix and
Cassie Elliott combined for the 1-hit shutout, Dix got the victory allowing the only hit while striking out 6.

Alyssa Carpio led the offensive barrage going 3 for 3 with two home runs, a double and 4 runs batted in.
Kayla Rodgers,
Jocelyn Ulrich and
Mikaela Payne each had two hits. Rodgers,
Cheyenne Sandoval and Ulrich each homered.

YC played catch up in the second game as they fell behind 4-1 after three innings of play. The offense woke up in the 4
th inning scoring 5 runs. Yavapai scored four more runs in the 5
th inning and added 5 runs in the 7
th inning.

Alyssa Carpio and
Miki Berg each had three hits. Weckel scored three runs and had 3 runs batted in.
Mikaela Payne and
Bella Porreco each had two hits. Payne knocked a home run.

Yavapai used 4 pitchers in the victory.

The Roughriders have a week break before hosting fellow ACCAC Division I foe Pima Community College on Saturday, April 24
th. The doubleheader begins at 12:00 PM.

Soccer
The #9 ranked (NJCAA Division I) Yavapai College Men's Soccer team defeated the Paradise Valley Pumas 4-1 in a morning match at Puma Field to raise its record to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in ACCAC play.

The Roughriders opened the scoring in the 9th minute on a Heath-Kennedy goal on a set piece assisted by
Loic Baures. Yavapai continued the pressure for the duration of the half and finally were able to break the game in the 38th minute, when
Enrique Zamora was able to find
Dauda Woodruff on top of the box, cleanly separating from two defenders and tucking the ball into the lower right hand of Puma goalkeeper Villegas.

The Roughriders would make the game 3-0 in the 75th when
Iann Topete capitalized on a crafty one time layoff from
Tucker Fenton. The lead would extend to 4-0 as
Iann Topete played a through ball to a streaking Chris Cornn who calmly slotted the ball into the lower right corner of the goal in the 88th minute of play. PVCC would score a goal in the 90th minute of play on a penalty kick.

The Roughriders next match will be on April 22nd at 6 PM as they face Region I foe Arizona Western at Ken Lindley Field.

Baseball
The YC hardballers split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon with the visiting Aztecs from Pima Community College. Pima won the opener 8-2 and Yavapai won the nightcap, 8-5. The Roughriders overall record stands at 21-16 and their conference mark is 16-12.

The Roughrider defense had 3 miscues that contributed to the loss in the first game. The offense only managed 6 hits in the game.

Noah Turley was 3 for 3 with a run scored.

In the nightcap, Yavapai came from behind for the victory. Pima took a 3-0 lead after 1 and a half innings. YC scored a single run in the second inning and tied the game in the third inning. Yavapai scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and added 3 more in the sixth inning.

Meanwhile, the Roughrider pitching held the Aztec offense scoreless from the third inning through the eighth innings.

Kade York and
Noah Turley each had three hits. Turley scored three runs and had an RBI on 2 doubles and York had 2 runs knocked in with a home run.
Damone Hale was 2 for 5.

YC concludes this homestand on Tuesday, April 20
th entertaining Gateway Community College. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM. 50 fans will be allowed entrance, first come, first serve. The gates will open 30 minutes before game time. $7 for adults, $5 Senior Citizens, Vets and Students. Free for YC students, staff and faculty with ID.
