The #9 Yavapai College Men's Soccer team raised its record to 3-1 (2-1 ACCAC) after a convincing 6-0 decision over the visiting Geckos from Gateway Community College on a crisp April evening at Ken Lindley Field. Despite numerous chances in the first half, Yavapai was not able to capitalize until the 36
th minute when Freshman
Dauda Woodruff was able to connect off of an
Enrique Zamora assist and beat GCC goalkeeper Pedro Cruz with a creative turn and finish into the upper 90. The score would remain 1-0 through the first half despite a commanding 7-0 shots on goal and 8-0 corner kick advantage by the Roughriders. The second half saw more of the same for the Roughriders as they continued putting consistent pressure for the opening 15 minutes of the second half.
Iann Topete opened the second half scoring with a
Loic Baures assist off a corner in the 54
th, followed immediately by a Zamora goal fed by fellow Sophomore
Tucker Fenton in the 55
th minute of play. The Roughriders once again found the back of the net as
Ivan Harris solo effort in front goal in the 69
th was able to beat Gecko goalkeeper Adrian Bejar. Freshman
Jakob Larson's diving header in the 71
st off of a
Jonathan Mayen assist. Mayen added to his evening assist total as he fed a perfect through ball to
Carlos Nunez which beat Bejar low to right.
Hudson Bodily was credit with the solo shutout for the evening.
The Roughriders return to action on Saturday morning with an 11:00 AM kickoff at Paradise Valley Community College.
