4/11/2021 11:01:00 AM

The Roughrider baseball team split an ACCAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Roughrider Park with fellow DI foe Cochise College. YC stumbled in the first game losing 5-3 and bounced back in the nightcap winning 10-5. YC is now 19-14 on the year and 14-10 in conference action.

YC took and early 1-0 lead in the opener however the Apaches put 2 runs on the board in the fourth and added three more in the sixth to make the score 5-1. In the bottom of the 7th, TJ Wheeler knocked a 2-run bomb to close the lead but the rally was cut short by the Apaches.

The Roughrider offense only managed six hits led by Damone Hale going 2 for 3 with a run scored. Wheeler was 1 for 3 with 2 runs batted in.

Declan Dutton was the hard luck loser from the mound allowing four earned runs while striking out 8 batters.

TJ Wheeler stayed hot in the second game launching 2 home runs knocking in 4 runners. CJ Valdez was 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Noah Turley and Travis Warinner each had two hits. Warinner left the yard and had 2 RBI's. Lance Kelly was 1 for 5 with a home run and 3 runs batted in.

Daniel Sotelo got the win on the mound throwing 5.1 innings, scattering 4 hits while striking out 4 batters.

YC continues ACCAC action on Tuesday, April 13th hosting Arizona Western College. The Matadors swept a doubleheader from the Riders last month in Yuma, 7-1 and 5-4.  Tuesday's twinbill begins at 12:00 PM.
