The Roughrider softball team scored 39 runs Tuesday afternoon in a doubleheader sweep over South Mountain Community College in the ACCAC season opener. YC won the first game 17-0 and won the second game 22-6. The Roughriders are now 6-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Emily Dix threw the complete game shutout allowing 1 hit while striking out 5 to earn the victory in the circle. YC had 10 hits on the day 8 for extra bases.
Kayla Rodgers Cheyenne Sandoval and
Miki Berg each had two hits. Berg had two home runs and seven runs batted in.
Mikaela Payne and
Jocelyn Ulrich each knocked a home run.

Yavapai came from behind in the second game to route the Cougars. YC fell behind, 2-0 after two innings of play. However, the Roughriders scored 12 runs in the top of the third inning and added 10 more runs in the final two innings of play. Three Roughrider pitchers contributed in the victory.
Cassie Elliott threw three innings striking out 7 batters. Kamryn Makakaiwi threw a single inning striking out two and
Leona Joshua threw the final inning striking out 1. Offensively, Yavapai pounded 23 hits led by
Kayla Rodgers and
Mikaela Payne each going 5 for 5. Rodgers had 2 doubles and knocked in one. Payne had two home runs and 5 RBI's.
Megan Parsley was 2 for 3 with a home run and
Cheyenne Sandoval was 1 for 3 with a grand slam and five RBI's.
Mia Weckel was 3 for 5.
Jocelyn Ulrich was 2 for 5 with two runs batted in.
Esperanza Rodriguez was 2 for 6 with two runs scored and
Alyssa Carpio was 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI's.
