The Roughrider softball team used the long ball including 4 in one inning to sweep a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader from Chandler-Gilbert Community College, 13-4 and 12-4. YC now stands at 13-2 on the season and remain unbeaten in ACCAC play at 8-0.
YC had to play from behind after Chandler-Gilbert scored a single run in the top of the first inning. However, Yavapai responded with a lone run in the bottom of the first and added five in the bottom of the second inning. The Green and Gold added two more in the third inning and put another five on in their half of the fourth sealing the victory.Â
YC had four players get two hits each,
Kayla Rodgers,
Megan Parsley,
Alyssa Carpio and
Esperanza Rodriguez.
Miki Berg, Parsley and
Mikaela Payne each hit homers.
Emily Dix went the distance for the victory throwing five innings and striking out 9.
Once again, YC played from behind in the second game. Chandler-Gilbert took a 2-0 in the top of the third but Yavapai scored six in their half of the inning to take the lead for good fueled by four home runs by
Cheyenne Sandoval,
Mikaela Payne,
Miki Berg and
Megan Parsley.
Jocelyn Ulrich led the Riders going 3 for 4 with 2 runs batted in.
Cheyenne Sandoval was 2 for 2 with 2 home runs and
Megan Parsley was 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored.
Mia Weckel was 2 for 4.
Esperanza Rodriguez was 1 for 3 with a homer.
Kamryn Kamakaiwi threw four innings to get the victory from the circle.
Yavapai returns to the home diamond on Saturday, April 3
