Roughriders Split with Bears

The Roughrider baseball team split a conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon with Phoenix College. YC won the opener, 6-2, and dropped the second game 13-8. YC is 13-12 overall and 8-8 in ACCAC play.
 
The Roughriders broke a 2-2 tie scoring 4 runs in the top of the sixth inning to secure the victory. Tyler Davis threw the final 3.1 innings for the victory. The freshman righthander allowed zero earned runs while striking out 4.
 
Offensively, CJ Valdez was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and 2 runs batted in. Noah Turley was 2 for 3 with a run scored and 2 RBI's. Damone Hale was 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored.
 
In the nightcap, YC could not overcome and early 11-3 deficit. Phoenix College scored 7 runs in the opening frame and 4 runs in the third inning. Yavapai attempted a comeback in the ninth inning scoring three runs but the rally fell short.
 
Offensively, YC had 14 hits but stranded 8 runners. Lance Kelly was a perfect 5 for 5. Noah Turley was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double and two runs batted in. Kenneth Jimenez and Amari Bartee each had two hits and each knocked a homer run.
 
Yavapai returns to the diamond on Tuesday hosting Paradise Valley Community College. The doubleheader begins at 12:00 PM.
