Roughriders Beat The Vaqueras

In their 2021 home debut, the Roughrider softball team swept a doubleheader from fellow ACCAC Division I foe, Central Arizona College, 15-4 and 11-8. YC improves to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in conference action.
 
In the opener, YC knocked 13 hits including 9 for extra bases and 5 over the fence.  Jocelyn Ulrich led the offense going 3 for 4 with two doubles and a home run and 6 runs batted in. Esperanza Rodriguez was 2 for 2 with two home runs and four RBI's. Mikaela Payne was 2 for 3 with a double and a home run and 2 runs knocked in. Kayla Rodgers and Megan Parsley each had two hits. Miki Berg was 1 for 3 with a home run.
 
Emily Dix went the distance in the circle allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 6.
 
In the nightcap, the Roughriders had to come from behind for the victory. Yavapai fell behind 7-1 after three and a half innings. However, YC scored 5 runs in their half of the fourth and took the lead in the sixth inning scoring five runs.
 
Of the 12 hits for the Riders, 5 were for home runs making the total 10 for the day. Cheyenne Sandoval and Miki Berg each knocked two homers each. Sandoval had five RBI's and Berg knocked in two. Mia Weckel was 2 for 4 with two doubles and Jocelyn Ulrich was 2 for 3. Alyssa Carpio slammed one over the fence in a pinch hitting role.
 
Leon Joshua threw 3.1 innings in relief to get the victory. The freshman from Nevada only allowed 1 hit and 1 run while striking out 3.
 
The Roughrider return to the diamond on Thursday, March 25th entertaining Gateway Community College. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
