The Roughrider softball team split a non-conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon in Phoenix with NJCAA DII #1 ranked Phoenix College. YC dropped the opener, 11-0 and bounced back in the nightcap winning 9-4.  YC is now 7-3 overall and have a 2-0 ACCAC mark.
 
In the first game, the Roughriders managed only 2 hits and Phoenix College knocked 9 hits, 2 for home runs.
 
In the second game, YC overcame an early 3-0 deficit by scoring 7 runs in the second inning. The Riders scored solo runs in the third and sixth innings.
 
After rendering 3 runs in the first inning, Yavapai pitching held the opponent scoreless until allowing a single run in the seventh inning.
 
Kamryn Kamakaiwi threw the final six innings to earn the victory scattering five hits while striking out six.
 
The Roughriders took advantage of the long ball in the second game getting home runs from Miki Berg, Alyssa Rosales and Jocelyn Ulrich.
 
Yavapai resumes conference play on Thursday, March 18th hosting Gateway Community College. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
