Swept an afternoon doubleheader Monday over Lamar

The Yavapai College Roughrider baseball team swept an afternoon doubleheader Monday over Lamar Community College, 12-3 and 19-9 at Bradshaw Mountain High School. YC is now 4-3 overall on the young season.
 
In the opener, the Roughriders scored three runs in their half of the 2nd inning to take and early lead but the Runnin' Lopes answered with three runs of their own in the top of the 3rd. YC responded with three runs in the 3rd and 4th innings, two in the 5th inning and a lone run in the 6th inning.
 
Taisei Yahiro got the victory throwing 3.2 innings scattering 7 hits while striking out 5. Nathan Ward threw the final 3.1 innings recording 5 strike outs.
 
Offensively, CJ Valdez, TJ Wheeler and Damone Hale each had three hits. Hale had 2 doubles and 3 runs batted in. Cam Jowaiszas knocked his first of three home runs on the day with a solo shot in the 5th inning.
 
In the nightcap, Yavapai had to come from behind for the lopsided victory. Lamar scored five runs in the opening frame and added two more runs in the 2nd inning. YC scored two runs in their half of the 1st innings and took the lead in the 2nd inning putting 6 runs on the board. Lamar tied the game in the 3rd inning. Yavapai scored 12 runs in the final three innings to run away from the opponent for the win.
 
Jackson Romero threw 2.2 innings of relief to get the victory. Daniel Sotelo threw the final two innings striking out 6 batters.
 
YC had 14 hits 10 for extra bases and 6 home runs. TJ Wheeler and Cam Jowaiszas hit 2 home runs each, the third of the day for Jowaiszas. Amari Bartee, Damone Hale and Daniel Martin each had two hits. Bartee and Hale each homered.
 
Yavapai returns to the diamond on Saturday the 20th at Phoenix College in a non-conference affair beginning at noon.
