Saturday's game against Lamar Community College, CO was a heartbreaker for Yavapai College Roughriders, as they lost the lead late in a 15-14 defeat in extra innings. The game was tied at 14 with Lamar batting in the top of the tenth when a Roughrider wild pitch allowed one run to score for the visitors. The Roughriders lost despite out-hitting the opponent 18 to eight. YC got on the board in the first inning on an
Amari Bartee solo homer. Yavapai led 9-3 after three innings of play and led 13-8 after seven innings. Lamar but 6 runs on the board in the bottom of the eighth to take their first lead of the game. Yavapai evened things up at 14 in the bottom of the ninth inning when
Daniel Martin singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Matt Bachelier toed the rubber for Yavapai. The pitcher surrendered three runs on three hits over three innings, striking out five and walking one.
Ethan Bell, Nick Silverio,
Noah Turley, and
Nick Agacki each entered the game as relief, throwing three and a third innings, two and a third innings, one inning, and one-third of an inning respectively. YC hit one home run on the day. Bartee had a long ball in the first inning.
Yavapai tallied 18 hits in the game. Martin, Cam Jowaiszas,
Lance Kelly, Bartee, and Wheeler all managed multiple hits for Roughriders. Martin went 4-for-6 at the plate to lead YC in hits. Yavapai stole eight bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Jowaiszas led the way with three.
These two teams will return to the diamond on Monday for an afternoon doubleheader. The twinbill begins at 12:00 PM and will take place at an off site location.
