PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- On a chilly night at Ken Lindley Field, the Yavapai College women's soccer team fell 2-1 to the No. 10-ranked Scottsdale Community College Artichokes to bring a close to its inaugural regular-season. With the loss, the Roughriders record moves to 7-10 overall and 4-5 within the ACCAC.
After a slow start to the match with few scoring chances, the Roughriders and Artichokes headed into halftime scoreless.
With a little more pace in the second half, the teams traded scoring chances with the Artichokes applying a lot of pressure right out of the break.
Scottsdale eventually broke through and scored on a free kick with just over 23 minutes to play in the match.
Just five minutes later, the Artichokes added an insurance goal and went up 2-0.
The aforementioned insurance goal wound up being an important one as freshman forward AJ Jones scored her second goal of the season as time expired in regulation to bring the final score to 2-1.
