Men’s Soccer Drops Road Contest to Phoenix

10/19/2021 9:38:00 PM

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The Yavapai College men's soccer team's comeback came up short Tuesday night on the road against the Phoenix College Bears as it fell 2-1. With the loss, the Roughriders are now 7-7-1 overall and 3-4-1 in conference games.

After a couple of nice saves from sophomore goalkeeper Josue Ruiz, the Bears scored the first goal of the match after a Phoenix forward got loose, knifed his way through the defense and fired the ball to the left of Ruiz who was forced to come out of the goal to attempt to stop the shot.

The Roughriders concluded the first half with a couple of scoring opportunities, however, were unable to capitalize. Right after the break, the Bears pushed their advantage to 2-0 with 41 minutes left to go in the match.

Down a pair of goals, things got intense between the Bears and Roughriders as every single possession became extremely important.

Yavapai eventually broke through in the match with three minutes left as freshman forward Ivan Corral scored his first goal of the season on a header off of a corner kick.

After Corral's score, however, the Bears were able to keep the Roughriders off of the scoresheet and secured a 2-1 victory.
