MESA, Ariz. – The Yavapai College men's soccer team suffered its first loss in conference play on Tuesday night as the Roughriders fell on the road to the No. 20-ranked Mesa Community College Thunderbirds by a score of 2-1.

On the season, YC now moves to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

After a first half in which the Roughriders controlled a majority of the possession, the teams went into the break tied 0-0.

About 25 minutes into the second half, YC broke the tie and took a 1-0 lead on a goal by sophomore midfielder Charlie Nunez

After a ball popped up off of a defender, sophomore forward Joey Vega touched the ball over to Nunez who launched a shot with his left foot to the top-right corner of the Mesa net and past the Thunderbird goalkeeper.

It was Nunez's first score of the season and Vega's third assist of the season.

Unfortunately for the Roughriders, Mesa was able to net two goals of its own in the final 25 minutes to bring the game to its final score of 2-1.
