On Friday evening the Roughrider Volleyball team took its 3-0 ACCAC record on the road to Mesa CC. After the first 2 sets Yavapai found their backs against the wall after falling 18-25 and 22-25. One thing the Roughriders have been consistent at this season is their ability to battle when the pressure is on and tonight they did not disappoint. After falling behind 0-2 the team found some passing consistency and improved their hitting percentage to .250 which led to a 13 point win (25-12). The fourth set was a close battle from start to finish as Yavapai hit only .133 and squeaked out a 25-23 win. With the match ties 2-2 Yavapai started the 5th set with several error and fell behind 1-5. After some quality defense Yavapai made the 5th set side switch up 8-7. The squad knocked down 11 kills with only 2 errors on 32 attempts which led to their best attacking percentage of the match .281. The Thunderbirds did not go quietly as they came on strong and were up 14-13 needing only 1 more point to finish the match. Yavapai kept believing in each other and earned some tough points down the stretch to come away with the 17-15 win in set 5.
The win improves Yavapai's overall record to 12-2 and runs their conference record to 4-0.Â
