On day 2 of the Snow College Invitational the Yavapai College Volleyball was presented with bigger challenges than on day 1 but they rose to the occasion and earned victories against College of Southern Idaho (3-1) and Utah State University-Eastern (3-2).

In the morning match the Roughriders were paired up against the defending National Champions and pre-season #1 ranked Golden Eagles from CSI. Yavapai outlasted CSI down the stretch in set 1 earning a 2 point victory in extra points. The final score was 27-25. The defensing National Champs came out strong is set 2 grabbing the first 6 points. Yavapai gained momentum late in set 2 and lost 21-25. That momentum swing late in set 2 helped build confidence in the Roughriders and they flipped the score in set 3 earning the win 25-21. The Roughrider then played excellent defense including out blocking CSI to finish the match in 4 sets with a 25-22 win. This marks the first time the Roughriders have beaten a #1 ranked opponent.

In the final match of the tournament Yavapai struggled to score points against an intense USUE team. Yavapai fell behind 0-2 after losing the first 2 sets 22-25, 21-25. However Yavapai would not go away quietly. They shook of the first 2 sets and played efficient volleyball winning set 3 by 9 points (25-16). Then to force a 5th and deciding set Yavapai won set 4 by the score of 25-19.The Eagles and Roughriders battled to a 2-2 ties early in the 5th set but Yavapai took control with a 5 point run behind the serving of freshman libero Heather Wanninger. Then the teams traded points and switched sides at 8-3. Yavapai held the 5 point lead for few minutes but USUE found ways to score and closed within 2 points (13-11). Tye Roughriders finished off the comeback with a block by freshman middle blocker Tori Baer

Yavapai will take their 4-0 record into the Dalton Overstreet Invitational tournament held in Walraven Gym starting on Thursday as they battle 2 more nationally ranked opponents.
