The Yavapai volleyball squad came out in set red hot and never looked back as they swept the Lady Matadors of Arizona Western College 3-0 The final scores were 25-10, 25-14, 25-9. The win improved Yavapai's overall record to 20-5.
The Roughriders were extremely effective offensively as they hit .378 for the match but their defense was unbelievable as they either blocked or dug almost everything the Lady Matadors hit their way. Libero
Heather Wanninger (ACCAC Libero of the Year) had 21 of the team's 63 digs and set the tone early in the first set by keeping the aggressive Arizona Western attacks from hitting the floor. Middle blocker
Lacie Tenney was a force in the front row with 7 total blocks and 12 kills. Tenney hit an outstanding .750 with 0 errors on 16 attempts. The Region 1 Most Valuable Player award went to outside hitter
Kennedy Wright who finished with a team high 14 kills, only 1 error, on 29 attempts while hitting .448. Setter
Pilar Daugherty ran the offense effectively and finished with 32 assists on 7 digs. Right side hitter

Annie Harte hit .250 with 4 kills, 0 errors, on 16 attempts to go along with her 7 digs. Middle blocker
Tori Baer came up big at key moments with 3 kills, 2 blocks, while hitting .400.
The Region 1 Championship propels Yavapai College into the District D Championship match against Hill College (Champion of Region 5 North). The match is scheduled for 7:00 pm local time in Cleburne, TX on Saturday November 9th. Hill College is currently 18-8 and has won 4 matches in a row. Yavapai will start their journey to Texas on the heels of a 3 match winning streak.The winner of the District D Championship match earns an automatic birth into the NJCAA DI National Championship Tournament (16 teams) which will be held at Hutchinson CC in Hutchinson, KS.
