Volleyball Beats Eastern Arizona on Sophomore Night

556On Wednesday evening the Yavapai volleyball squad honored their 7 sophomores as they played their final home regular season match of 2019. The Roughriders played well and finished with a 3-0 sweep of the Gila Monsters. The final set scores were 25-22, 25-11, 25-19.

The Roughrider's offense was clicking on all cylinders as they hit .208 for the match including a match high .312 in set 2. Sophomore setter Pilar Daugherty distributed the ball effectively gathering 29 assists. Daugherty also chipped in 8 digs and 3 kills to go along with 2 block assists. Sophomore middle blocker Lacie Tenney (pictured on right) knocked down a team high 14 kills while hitting .290.Freshman outside hitter hit a team high .417 with 11 kills. Wright also chipped in 10 digs to finish with her 13th double / double of the season.

Defensively Yavapai totaled 58 digs and 10 block assists. Freshman libero Haether Wanninger led the Roughriders with 17 digs and freshman middle blocker Tori Baer led the front line with 3 block assists.

The victory improves Yavapai's overall record to 18-5 and more importantly their ACCAC record to 9-3. The win paired with Arizona Western College's loss to Mesa CC on Wednesday night gives Yavapai a 1 match lead in the standings for the Division I Region 1 playoff. Yavapai will finish the regular season at Phoenix College on Friday evening at 7:00 pm and Arizona Western will travel to Eastern Arizona College for their regular season finale. The two teams have both secured their spots in the Region 1 playoff and the higher seeded team will host the other on Tuesday November 5th. Match time will be set for 7:00 pm.
