On Friday evening the Roughriders made the journey south to Yuma, AZ to take on the Lady Matadors of Arizona Western College. Yavapai was close in all three sets but could avoid the sweep. The final scores were 26-28, 22-25, 23-25.
Yavapai was edged out statistically in all but one category by Arizona Western. Kills; 37 to 46, hitting percentage; .173 - .212, blocks; 5.5 - 8; service aces; 2 - 6, and earned points; 44.5 - 60. The Roughriders had 67 digs compared to 54 for the Lady Matadors.

Lacie Tenney hit a team high .292 with 9 kills and 4 total blocks. Freshman outside hitter
Skylar Redd was also very productive hitting .267 with 4 kills, 0 errors, on 15 attempts. Sophomore setter
Pilar Daugherty chipped in 27 assists and 16 digs. Freshman outside hitter
Kennedy Wright was the only Roughrider with double digit kills (10) to go along with 10 digs. Freshman libero
Heather Wanninger led the team with 24 digs.
The loss drops Yavapai's ACCAC record to 8-2 (2nd place) and overall record to 17-4. It also is the first time all season that Yavapai has lost 2 consecutive matches. The Roughriders will not have to wait very long for a chance at redemption. The two team will face off again on Saturday at 3:00 pm on the campus of Arizona Western College.
