On Wednesday evening an ACCAC showdown between 2 nationally ranked teams occurred in Glendale. The DI #18 ranked Roughrider traveled south to play the DII #3 ranked Gauchos. Yavapai won 3-0 by scores of 25-19, 29-27, 25-15. The loss is only the 3rd of the year for Glendale CC and only their 2nd ACCAC loss. The win increases Yavapai's overall win total to 16 with only 2 losses and keeps their ACCAC record perfect at 8-0
The Roughrider offense was stellar all match as the team totaled 38 kills, 12 errors, on 110 attempts for an attacking percentage of .236. The biggest factor that favored Yavapai was blocking. The Roughriders totaled 21 block assists with sophomore
Lacie Tenney (#14) leading the team with 7. Leading the team in kills was freshman
Kennedy Wright (#11) with 13 while hitting a strong .314. Sophomore
Lexi Cole (#16) was flawless on 16 15 attempts while knocking down 8 of them for kills. Her 0 errors led to a team high hitting percentage of .533. Setter
Pilar Daugherty (#2) contributed 29 assists, 14 digs, 2 service aces, and 2 kills.
Next on the schedule for Yavapai is the Buccaneers of Park University (NAIA) as the Roughriders take a short break from conference play. The match is set for 7:00 pm on Friday in Walraven Gym and will be first ever meeting between the 2 programs. The match is part of the first Yavapai College Homecoming festivities which kick off on Thursday.
